I recently discovered Sally Berneathy's Death by Chocolate Series. The Great Chocolate Scam is the third book in the series and is every bit as good as the earlier books in the series. I'm sure you could read this mystery as a stand-alone book, but do yourself a favor and read all three in order. By the time I got to book 3, the characters (heroine Lindsay, the hardworking friend and business partner Paula, the other neighbor with secrets of his own Fred) felt like old friends. This book, like the others in the series, is an easy read with plenty of action and lots of humor. A plus, for chocolate lovers who like to bake, are the recipes included at the end! I do have to admit that I went to lunch today and ordered a hot fudge brownie sundae for dessert!Product details

I absolutely enjoyed this book and the two earlier ones. I did get a little annoyed with Lindsay when she allowed Rick's family into her home without even asking to see identification. As far as she knew, he had no family. In this book they mentioned all the stories Rick had told her about his family but they never mentioned the "growing up in an orphanage" story, which was mentioned in a previous book. I love the recipes at the end of the books and look forward to trying them out one day. Definitely will read more from this author.
This is a fun and wonderful series that I will be following. Linsday is waiting for Rick to arrive and finally signed the divorce papers. Instead Trent calls and tells her that Rick's car exploded with him in it. Now Lindsay doesn't need a divorce. All of a sudden Rick's relatives appear and want to stay with her.
Henry is back in a minor role. Fred takes a more active part . The local body builder tells her Rick was going to sell him his parents flour mill that Rick scam from them. Lindsay has all these,troubles to manage.
Absolutely the worst thing I've ever read. About 80% of this book is fluff / filler.
The author spends too much time describing things that really do not matter to the narrative nor add to the story telling. It initially left me puzzled; thinking, maybe this is this going to be important to the story at a later point. However, I suspect that the author was trying to hit a certain word count.
Dreadful use of 'humour'; obvious and every single "joke" was repeated numerous times... I was cringing the whole time.
I wouldn't even consider this as a holiday read. Truely a waste of time.
I absolutely love this series! Normally when a chapter ends I can put the book down but not with this series, the author leaves you hanging so you have to continue reading to find out what happened. I have spent many a late night reading until I realize that morning isn't far away. I highly recommend this series. Each book is a stand alone but the best way to read them is from the beginning so you can enjoy each character that much more.
Book 3 in the DEATH BY CHOCOLATE series is every bit as entertaining as Book 1 and 2. The mystery, humour and storyline are great. Once again we find Lindsay in an out of control situation when her almost ex-husband Rick is killed by a car bomb. His family of which she knew nothing about, come crawling out of the woodwork all wanting a piece of his wealth. Their interactions and arguing make for a highly dysfunctional family unit, with Lindsay stuck in the middle. I love the mysterious character of her neighbour Fred who seems to have "special" powers according to Lindsay. The whole book was a page turner from beginning to end with never a dull moment. I highly recommend this series and look forward to another installment in the life of Lindsay Powell, chocolatier extraordinaire.
I really loved this series and can't wait for her to write another one!! These books were so much fun, I had to buy all of her books for my kindle.
Lindsay once again finds herself in lots of trouble. When a car bomb goes off in her soon to be ex-husbands driveway, his relatives start coming out of the woodwork wanting his estate. Lindsay has never met any of his family and now she knows why!! Their all crazy! His mother who is a bossy control freak, that is broke. His two brothers who can't seem to stay out of trouble. Then there is the old girlfriend who swears her boy is Ricks son and should inherit everything.
Put them all together and it is one crazy thing after another. I found myself glued to my kindle waiting to see what happens next. I do hope that she comes out with a new book soon because I am dying to see what Fred ACTUALLY does for a living. His outings with Lindsay are so funny.
As always, Sally Berneathy's characters were charming, funny and intriguing. Sporting the same cast of character's from the first books of the series and a few new "characters" guarantee that you will love this book. Lindsay (the heroine) is always finding herself in new and unusual predicaments. That's where her loving, although eccentric friends come into play. Like a bull in a china closet Lindsay and her gang investigate with a flare that only Ms. Berneathy can create. The plot is filled with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat if you haven't already fallen out of your chair laughing!
The characters are so well developed that you will feel as if you have fallen into the book and are hanging out with the gang. This book can stand alone, but don't cheat yourself. The other books of the series are wonderfully entertaining and will help you actually develop a friendship with the cast of characters. By all means, read this book! But...treat yourself to a real "chocolate high" and read them all in order. You won't be disappointed.
Oh, I almost forgot...the chocolate recipes in the back of the books are "to die for"! Thank you Sally, for yet another great book. I am looking forward to the next one already.
